What is the difference between Chef and Terraform?

Chef and Terraform both manage infrastructure but serve different purposes. Chef is essentially a configuration management tool. It configures and maintains the states of the servers. Terraform, on the other hand, is an infrastructure-as-code tool developed to create and manage resources across cloud platforms. Terraform provides a greater degree of control compared to Chef, since Terraform configures infrastructure from scratch, while Chef configures already existing infrastructure. Many teams do indeed use the two together: Terraform to set up the environment and Chef to handle configuration and ongoing maintenance.
