What are the main differences between Ruby and Ruby on Rails?

The question is about Ruby

Answer:

Ruby is a general-purpose programming language, while Ruby on Rails (often just called Rails) is a web application framework built on Ruby. Rails includes tools, libraries, and conventions for easier web application construction: routing, database interactions, and front-end integrations.
In other words, Ruby is the language, but Rails is the structured environment in which a developer can create applications using it. That being said, Ruby certainly doesn’t have to be used only with Rails for a great number of purposes, but Rails definitely makes Ruby particularly effective at web development.

Gotta drop in here for some Kudos. I’m 2 weeks into working with a super legit dev on a critical project, and he’s meeting every expectation so far 👏
